Aurifil Designer of the Month for November – and a giveaway!

Aurifil’s Designer of the Month is Jacquelynne Steves from The Noble Wife. Her free project, “For Ella’s Sister,” is shown above. Pat Sloan has interviewed Marianne on the Aurifil blog. (That’s where you go to download the pattern for her free project!)

Each month this year, a different designer has been giving away a free pattern on the Aurifil blog (my month was January). Remember – if you make any project from the design team, load a photo to our Aurifil Flickr group; this puts you in the running to win an Aurifil thread prize!

Each month this year, I’m going to be giving away a pack of Aurifil minispools (like the one shown above) when the new project is announced. Just leave a comment after this post telling me if you have ever tried Aurifil thread. I'll pull a name at random on Saturday, December 10 at noon EST.     I have never tried it before, need to do more machine quilting this year. I did get some specialty embroidery threads with my machine, so need to try the different types.

    No, I have never tried Aurifil thread. Sometimes I get frustrated with the thread I am using so I would love to try something new. I'm not sure Aurifil is available in the shops here.

    Have I tried it? Oh yes and I am an Aurifill addict. I have a box full of threads. I even bought a big box with 30 colors. Awesome!
    I use the cotton (Mako) and the Auriroyal (for quilting and embroidery) a lot!

    I love Aurifil Thread 50. It is great for piecing my Nearly Insane and all those Itty Bitty Pieces. It also makes the best top stitching thread for my lovely Liberty Shirts.

    I have never used Aurifil thread. I am always overwhelmed by the thread selections in the stores and tend to stick to the tried and true threads. I would love a chance to try these threads.

    I have never tried it yet, though I have seen it all over and especially in your work! I have a lot of thread lying about that other people have given me and though I would love to try aurifil, I keep thinking I ought to use up what I have got before buying new. Trying it out might well change my mind? :-)

    I bought the neutrals pack (first time for me) last year and have since used it for piecing. Loved it. I'd love the chance to try other weights and colors.

    I love Aurifil!! I've only had the chance to try one of their weights/styles (don't remember what it is 50/50 or 60/40 cotton?). Would love to try their others.

    Aurifil makes 100% cotton thread in the following weights – there are 252 colors (216 plain and 36 variegated):

    Cotton Mako 50 (orange spools) – this is my favorite for thread sketching and piecing

    Cotton Mako 40 (green spools) – my favorite for machine quilting

    28-weight Cotton Mako (gray spools) – for hand quilting or blanket stitch

    Cotton Mako 12 (red spools) – heaviest thread, for Sashiko or embellishment

    They also make 12-weight wool Lana (in 192 colors) that is gorgeous and wonderful to do hand work with, and invisible thread/monofilament.

    I believe I have used Aurifil, but it's not the one I normally use. I'd love to win the pack to see if I'd like to use them more often. I've heard good things about it.

    My Bernina dealer started carrying this thread line and promotes it vigorously, so I decided to try it. It is great -- strong, constant, and very little shedding. I will buy more. 8)

    I love Aurifil thread I used it on all my quilts that I make. The color is vibrant and is works so well on the quilts.

    Having difficulty posting to your blog - after click submit get HTTP 504 error message. Will attempt again. If there are duplicates, please understand that there is no confirmation of a post.

    I'm hoping to win an Aurifil sampler with thread in a color that can use for piecing projects (not bright orange - something more neutral). I have an orange minispool yet no orange project. I hear that it is wonderful for piecing. I'm also curious about the sashiko weight thread.

    Marcia W: Sorry you were having problems. The way the comments are set up on blogger (or at least on my blog), you don't get a confirmation. Comments used to post immediately, but I got slammed with tons of Japanese pornography, so I have to moderate comments now. That is why they do not appear immediately. The sampler pack I am giving away does not have neutral colors. It is the one shown in the photo. Sorry!

    Yes, I love Aurifil. I bought a spool just to try, & did a binding with it & I could not BELIEVE how smooth the hand was! As they say.ike butter! Now my challenge is to shift my (fairly large) thread stash over to Aurifil. The restjust doesn't feel as good now.

    It would be a dream come true to win a smple pack of Auriful thread with the different weights of threads to try out on differnt projects. I've never used Auriful thread as in Canada it is very costly to say the least. I would love to promote this product to the Home Ec. class and to the many Canadian Quilters in my area.

    I LOVE Aurifil thread!!!! Comes in so many colors and virtually lint free in my machines. Also love there wool spools. Would love to be a winner of your Aurifil thread pack.The more weights and colors the better!!!
