I've been playing with circles lately. The piece above is called “Infinite Voices,” and is inspired by this quote by Malala Yousafzai: “We must tell girls their voices are important.” I envisioned the circles as individuals, and the circular stitching as female voices, all shouting out to be heard. Many beautiful voices, all different.

I also made this three-dimensional piece, using acrylic felt as a base, then melting away some of the stitched circles.

ReplyDeleteI am having a memory quilt made with my husband's dress shirts and using this technique. Did you stabilize the fabric first. Seems like they need to stay really soft so the little bulge sticks out well. Please advise.
ReplyDeleteUnless the shirts are really flimsy material, I don't think you need to stabilize. But if you do, I'd ask someone who does this kind of work – I've never made a quilt like this. I know that people who make t-shirt quilts use stabilizers. Sorry I'm not much help on this matter! :-)

DeleteI used a crafting heat tool to melt the acrylic felt. (Do this outside to avoid fumes!) I think mine is by Walnut Hollow.
