My word for 2010:

A bunch of my online friends at Quiltart, “an internet mail list for contemporary quilters,” are picking words to motivate and inspire them for the year 2010. A sort of mantra to keep yourself on track, and mindful of your purpose or path.

To me, authentic means:
being true to one’s own personality, spirit, or character
being actually and exactly what is claimed
being genuine
having good faith and sincerity of intention
being reliable, trustworthy, bona fide
being free from hypocrisy or pretense
being original, not false or imitative

Here are words others in the Quiltart group have chosen for 2010:
Grow
Focus
Journey
Explore
Challenge
Bold
Balance
Work
Cultivate
Territory
Experiment
Innovate
Fun
Survive
Intent
Serene
Dare
Finish
Instinctual
Concentration
Accomplish
Courage
Simplify
What if
Discipline
See
Step up
Curious
Freedom
Me
Forward
Life
Joy
Over
Be
Dance
Yes

  1. I chose bliss, which I though I had posted on the list. At my ripe old age, I want to follow my bliss as I create this year.

  2. Of course you picked my mantra word!!! lol

Authenticity is huge in my value system.

Integration is another big one for me. Integrating polarities is a must for authenticity I think. I should make a quilt with that inspiration....now there is a fun idea.

    One of your big fans!!

    Smiles,
    Kelly

  3. Susan, your word of the year is one I hold in my heart so closely... without authenticity, our art is just decoration, IMO. And since authenticity comes from inside, it means making ourselves vulnerable by putting our hearts and hopes on the line to achieve it. May we all have the best of luck finding and maintaining this critical aspect of our work!

  7. I have word essential on my cell phone. For me it means keeping the important, the root, the essence in front of me. In this marketing world of stuff and lists of stuff to do, it helps me to ask myself, is this essential to the goals and happiness of my family and me and does it better my community and world? It also helps keep me grounded and not to worry or get upset about daily minutiae.

Balance and authentic have been my words too at other times.
