Win a “Modern Blocks” book!

Exuberant (page 62) by Susan Brubaker Knapp

Modern Blocks, a new book of blocks compiled by Susanne Woods of Stash Books (an imprint of C&T Publishing), will be out soon! This book features 99 quilt blocks from well-known designers — including me! That’s my Exuberant block above. Want to win a copy? Check out the blocks below, and read my note at the bottom of the post!

This book is chock full of some darling, sophisticated, cute, and modern blocks! All finish to 12" square. Here are some of my favorites:

April Showers (page 16) by Kirsti Underwood

Birdsong (page 24) by Rachel Roxburgh
Russell the Robot (page 156) by Sonja Callaghan

Missing Your Kiss (page 114) by Penny Michelle Layman

Binary (page 22) by Angela Pingela
Garden Lattice (page 80) by Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr

All or Nothing (page 12) by Angela Pingel

Feathered Friends (page 64) by Melissa Crow
Windmill (page 198) by Lynne Goldsworthy
Leave me a comment after this post, telling me which block you like best, and why (and don’t try to butter me up by saying you like mine best!). I’ll pick one name at random at noon EST on November 9, and send you the book. Please note: If your comment doesn't show up right away, don't worry… it will! I now have to “moderate the comments” (read and say if they can post) because I had some very unpleasant pornography links showing up in my comments before I started moderating them!! WE HAVE A WINNER! Tonya won the book! Thanks, everyone!

  10. I like the April Showers.
It might be modern, but it looks old-fashioned & perfect for a little girl.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I would have to go for the Windmill but not for ease of construction.

  12. My faves here are binary and the windmill.. I love the stability of binary (feeds the scientist in me), and love the movement and colours in windmill (feeds the playful child in me). Thanks for the giveaway!!

  17. I do love your block - it's so nice to see something so very different for a flower applique block and I do have to say I've a real fondness for my pal Lynne's block (windmill) too.
    Thanks for having this giveaway.

  22. I like Missing Your Kiss (and yours of course!)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Missing Your Kiss is wonderful and I may give this a try for a baby quilt I'm going to make. I like the wonkiness of this block but also like Binary very much. Makes me feel like a split personality!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I like Windmill the best because it can be done scrappy and has a lot of movement. But there's some very close runners up.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, if I can't pick yours.. (I really do love pink and flowers..) then I will pick All or Nothing because of it's bright beautiful colors and the contrast between that and the white.. something, I don't know what it is about it just catches my eye and spirt and I love that one too.

  26. Love most of them, but the windmill block speaks to me!

Thank you for the chance to win this wonderful book!

  28. Those are all so pretty, but if I have to pick one, I guess My favorite would be the WINDMILL.
    Laura

  29. I do like your block a lot and I also like the Windmill block at the bottom so I guess I pick two - one pieced and one applique.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Love the windmill! Your book is a definite "NEED" in my studio! ;)

  32. It has to be russell the robot! Love the colours and geometry and the playfulness!

  33. Wow - what an inventive new way of making quilt blocks. I love yours, but also Birdsong (the way she incorporates parts of the fabric design to make stitcheries) and Windmill, which seems to be a creative way to use flying geese?
If I were pressed to choose, I guess my preference would be for Birdsong. That one seems to remain most prominent in my memory after looking at these blocks.
Sure makes me truly intrigued to see the book!
Thank you for sharing this preview on your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I like how whimsical Birdsong is but I really like how Windmill doesn't play in the lines and I like rebels!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like the birdie blocks as I am finding that birds fit into quilts so sweetly. The binary block is very interesting also. Thanks for a chance to win. =!=

  38. Actually, they are all lovely but I really like the one that is purple, orange, turquoise, and white plus signs on a grey background that is on the cover of the book. It really intrigues me and my mind is turning it all different directions and putting it together to see what you get. It is such fun to play with new blocks!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I like the missing your kiss block--how sweet to give someone---I would love that book....

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think the modern windmill is wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I really loved the Birdsong block, but the Missing Your Kisses block was a close second. That looks like a really neat book.

    Kris

    ReplyDelete
  42. What a neat idea for a book...Choosing my favourite was hard. Each one brought a smile to my face...so I think 'Missing Your Kiss" would be my first choice followed by 'Exuberant"

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well, but, you see... I DO like your block the best. I love applique. Being a birder, I also like Feathered Friends AND I would love to know how to make the Windmill block. Is that too many? Thanks for the chance... Karen

  44. So hard to pick but I am fascinated by Lynne Goldsworthy's version of Windmill. I keep trying to visually disecting how she might have done it!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am torn between the Feathered Friends, and the Windmill blocks.
I think Windmill done in graduating batiks would be awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I love them all, but binary appeals to me. It's so imperfectly perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  47. This book is too fun! Love the garden lattice block and the feathered friends applique blocks. I like the garden lattice because it looks like a Celtic block and I want to make a Celtic look quilt for my nephew. The birds I like just 'cuz they are cute!
Thanks for the chance to win!

  49. I would have to say it's a toss up between Windmill and Exuberant. I love the graphic design of Windmill, but I'm a sucker for appliqué. Looks like an amazing book. Thanks for the giveaway!

  50. My favourite is All or Nothing - I love the colours!
    Hugs,

  52. I love your block but since you think I'll be buttering you up I'll go for "April Showers". It's so sweet. I could sit in the living room with my husband and work on it instead of hiding out in my quilting room.

    ReplyDelete
  53. April Showers because of those happy little faces in the flowers and the clouds.....and I want to try some stitchery that doesnt frighten me too much!

    ReplyDelete
  54. My new passion is paper piecing and the Windmill block is yummy!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Sorry, I can't pick just one. And if I saw all 90 ...

  58. Besides yours (butter, butter), I love the Windmill block. While I like the sample colors, I would change to my color pallet and have some fun making a quilt for my daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  59. My personal favorite is: "All or Nothing (page 12) by Angela Pingel", because it's the perfect block for my handdyed fabrics.
First runner up is: "Missing Your Kiss (page 114) by Penny Michelle Layman" fot the same reason.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I love the new book with the updated quilt designs!! What fun.
My favorite blocks are the robot and Spring showers. I love the uniqueness of the robot (can't say I've ever seen a robot block before!), and am a happy hand stitcher, and think spring showers is cheery!

  63. I do like yours the best. It is all in the details (lots od details)

  64. Windmill! It does not look paper pieced, and the points don't look like they need to match.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Birdsong - I love piecing, stitching and applique together in a quilt. The book looks amazing, thanks for the opportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Love your block. Also like the graphic quality of the Garden Lattice.

  67. I really like the windmill block.:)

    Denise D.

  68. But I DO like your block best. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Not "buttering," but I do like your block best! I love to do hand applique so I always have a "mobile" project going on. If I were to choose another block it would be Windmill because I think you could get some very interesting secondary designs for a quilt depending on the fabric choices!

    Have fun in Houston!

    ReplyDelete
  70. There are several I like, but if I HAVE to choose...I pick Windmill. I like the movement in the piece.

    ReplyDelete
  71. All or Nothing was my favorite but I did like some of the other ones.

    ReplyDelete
  72. My favourite block is the Birdsong block, which was hard to choose! This looks a lovely book with some new ideas. Thankyou for the opportunity to win one!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Missing your kisses is my favorite as it reminds me of my kids signing cards with their "kisses"

    ReplyDelete
  74. I love the All or Nothing and Missing Your Kisses blocks! This book would truly help broaden my (very small) quilting skills :)

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  75. How I wish I could take one of your classes in Houston! But by the time I decided to come they were sold out, and I had things to do every day, so ... maybe next time. Have a fun time.
The book looks to be very interesting, with so many diverse style of blocks.
    Best regards,

  77. • • • I see a lot of potential in the Windmill and All About Nothing. Most likely because I have a thing for dots and they can give the impression of dots. Also, I love to use a lot of different fabrics in my quilts, and both of these blocks give me that opportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I love the Windmill block by Lynne Goldsworthy. I am a very geometric person. Thanks for the giveaway.
