| Sharon Pederson’s free “Aurifil Christmas Tree” Pattern |
Designer, author and teacher Sharon Pederson is Aurifil’s Designer of the Month for December. I met Sharon in person this fall at International Quilt Festival in Houston. (She was shooting video for The Quilt Show, and she interviewed me in front of one of my quilts.)
Sharon’s “Rose of Sharon” quilt (below) is absolutely spectacular, and represents a partnership between Electric Quilt, AccuQuilt, Alex and Ricky of The Quilt Show, Aurifil, Bernina, Island Batik, and designers of 850 blocks from quilters in 11 countries. The result was a quilt that has helped raise a lot of money for Alzheimer’s research through the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative. You can read all about it on Sharon’s website.

ReplyDeleteNot time for me to make a Christmas for this year. The old purchased one I have went on my bed today, and I made a promist to myself to donate it to Goodwill when finished with it and make one for us for next year.

ReplyDeleteMy mother pieced (I did some of the rotary cutting, etc.) a deer themed lap quilt for my niece's husband was pieced and is now at the long arm quilters. Hope to get it returned so can bind it before Christmas eve.

ReplyDeleteI'm making table runners for my sisters and pillow cases for some of the grandkids. I'm really re-energized about quilting (cleaning my quilt room tonight) and it feels really good. Sharon is an amazing quilter and she does beautiful work!

ReplyDeleteThis is the first time in 5 years I am not making a quilt as a gift. Everyone I love has one now. So, I am making myself a slow cloth jacket. Me, my thimble, and thread stitching away quietly. I must admit I have twinges of anxiety because I am not used to not being in the mad race to get a quilt bound on the drive to the party!

I made a flannel quilt in holiday hues for my teen daughter's room. She loves it as it is so snuggley. Now if we could just get some cold temps so she could use it!

ReplyDeleteMy current challenge is to applique a large navy anchor on white background and make it into a laptop bag for my nephew. The lining is a navy with white anchors on from the Dear Stella range of Anchors away.. as you probably guessed.. he has nautical interests so I might make a few waves with the quilting!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog post! I look forward to the Aurifil Designer info. I'm making a quilt for my son, but it won't be finished by Christmas. It's a queen size, and I still have to do the borders, which are pieced. I've made some other holiday quilts, too, and have to finsih a tablerunner for my sister-in-law. I do need some more Aurifil! lol.
ReplyDeleteI don't quilt, but I do sew tote bags for my group, World of Charity Stitching. We fill the totes with goodies for senior citizens in a nursing home and for children at a domestic violence shelter for Christmas. Thanks for a chance to win.

I made my son a black and white log cabin quilt with red centers. This replaces one made about 20 years ago in black, white, grey and red trip around the world that is now in shreds.

ReplyDeleteI am not making a quilt FOR Christmas, but I have an almost "naked bed" as my quilt on my bed is sadly worn out. As soon as Christmas day is past, I will be finishing several quilts -- and amazingly, it is now my turn, so they will be for me! Very exciting!

I'm working on a number of projects; everything from felted ornaments to zippered pouches to a quilt. I'm loving every moment I can squeeze in at my machine.

I joined a BOM challenge. While selecting fabrics for the challenge I realized that I have never made a Christmas themed quilt. I pulled all of the red/green/Christmas themed fabrics I have and began making my first Christmas quilt. I have four blocks finished.

ReplyDeleteI made 2 wallhangings for my kids that were part of the WillowBendCreations.com pattern line "Santa's First Stop" depicting a big Christmas tree and 4 corners had the Alaska animals. Both my kids were born in Alaska and loved their Christmas gift.
ReplyDeleteI did not make a quilt for Christmas. Instead I made quilted potholders and kitchen towels with a quilted band - both with embroidery, too. I wanted to make mug rugs to match but ran out of time. I might make them for groundhog's day. Thanks for the thread giveaways. Aurifil is my favorite brand.
ReplyDeleteI made 3 quilted tree skirts this year and a banner for church. For next year I plan to make a tree skirt that coordinates with the church banner for the church tree. 3 family members got quilts for Christmas (I'm the only quilter in the family).
ReplyDeleteI just finished quilting a wonderful quilt called Trees Up Lights On by Pieces of My Heart. I had so much fun making this quilt. It looks great with the metallic thread I used. All I have left now is the binding.
