I am making good progress on quilting “I See the Moon.” I have quilted around all the branches (whew!), done some of the darkest part of the sky at the top, and have finished the moon.
I used two colors of thread on it, a medium blue on the darker areas, and white. At first, I worried that I had made it too textural and bumpy. But I think it looks okay, especially since the rest of the quilt is fairly flat. And since it is the focal point of this piece, I guess it doesn’t hurt to let the quilting draw some attention to it.
Beautiful! The cratery texture and luminosity of the moon is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteYour moon looks great! I love the texture you added to it.
ReplyDeleteThis is so fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThe moon would not have been so nice if it were not for your cat giving her personal touch!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful Susan! The moon looks like it's lit up!
ReplyDeleteWOW! That is stunning!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness this is beautiful.....I'm glad I had the chance to see it....Karen

Looks like alot of fun! Love the textural aspect.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love how you did the moon. I also remember the moon song as a child.
ReplyDeleteWow you are so good at this now that you just pop those babies out! Well I know it takes alot more than what you show us... however it seems like you do these pretty quickly. Keep on going I LOVE seeing all that you do.
ReplyDeleteBette,
ReplyDeleteI probably have more than 30 hours of work in this piece so far, so I wouldn't say I popped it out! :-)
Although I had a 36-hour labor – without any pain medication – and then a c-section with my first child. I'll admit that this piece was easier than that.
This is totally, mind-bogglingly AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC! Really like seeing what you do with your pictures. You are amazing.

Love it - the moon is beautiful on that shaded sky.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! What did you do to the moon to get the pearl/shiny finish? It is all so wonderful. Maybe you should send an email picture to John Glenn!
ReplyDeleteHugs from Mary
Thanks, Mary! The moon is painted with a metallic acryclic textile paint (Lumiere by Jacquard).
ReplyDeleteI the tree appliqué? it looks very fine. what is the size of the whole quilt? baby quilt or wall hanging?
ReplyDeletethank you for your help. my son and daughter in law like this and i want to try to make one for their new baby room.

ReplyDeleteStunning. Fabulous. Soulful .
ReplyDeleteGoosebumps.
Are you making this to sell? It's beautiful
ReplyDeleteI wasn't meaning to sell it, but Karey Bresenhan (who founded International Quilt Festival) made me an offer, and as it was such an honor to be in her collection, I said yes. She purchased it right after it appeared in the "Rituals" exhibition by Dinner at Eight Artists at International Quilt Festival 2012.
DeleteWish I could find instructions on how to make this quilt.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous, I do not have a pattern for this piece. It is a work of art. I do have books and DVDs teaching my techniques. I encourage you to make your own original art.
DeleteMagnifique !!! I love it !!!
