A fun thing, and a give-away!

Have you seen these Ricky Tims playing cards? I bought some at Quilters Loft Company, my local quilt shop, where they retail for about $7.

Ricky Tims is well known in the quilting community for his spectacular award-winning quilts, his bigger-than-life personality, and his music. These pretty playing cards feature one of his quilts on the front of each card. The Ace, King, Queen and Jack cards of each suit feature different detail shots of his quilts. Tims, of course, is on the Joker cards, wearing his trademark Stetson.

They'd make a great fun gift or stocking stuffer for your favorite quilter. What quilting-related items do you have on your Christmas/Hanukkah/Al Hijra/Kwanzaa/other holiday wish list this year, quilters? Leave me your response in the comments section for this post. On Dec. 15, I'll pull one name out of a hat, and send the winner the playing cards.

AND THE WINNER IS... MOMID5!!! Please send me your street address, and I'll put the cards in the mail to you. Thanks to everyone for playing! Susan

  1. Of course he would be the Joker...what a hoot! I haven't seen these, but would love a chance at having them! On my quilting wish list is a retreat at Camp Dogwood to sew like crazy for three days, time to clean my studio (better yet, an elf to clean it for me!ha!), a bolt of fusible web, and a big package of gelatin so I can play with monoprinting.

Hope you have a blessed holiday season! Thanks for sharing your inspiring work

  4. I need 2 elves for the mess in my studio. One would just stand there and cringe! My fantasy gift would be the ability to go somewhere for a week to create but not have to shlep all my stuff with me.... Hmmm, that has possibilities... maybe I could start something like a swap with someone... one week there and one week for them here.

  5. I would like one of those portable "sidwinder" bobbin fillers, I think it would be great not to have to rethread my machine everytime a boobin was empty.

  7. Also, in my previous comment, I forgot to list the Panasonic 1200 Watt Steam Iron with Curved Titanium-Plated Soleplate. From what I hear, fusible web doesn't stick to it! D~~~~

  8. It would be wonderful to have the Christmas elves come in and clean up my mess! BIG SIGH! My most sought after Christmas wish would be some uninterrupted time, so I could think, design and make a quilt during the college break coming up. After a 3 year hiatus from quilting, due to going to college, I'm really needing to get into some fabric and work with my Janome 6500.
Have a Merry Christmas and you have a great blog. Your work is wonderful!

  9. What a nice thing to do, of course I would love the prize. My quilting wish would be to take a class from Nancy Crow. My wish for my studio would be to have elves come in and redo it totally, grin.

  10. The greatest gift for me is enough time to finish the last of the 40 quilts for my Solo Show opening the end of January.
I have to have the quilts to the gallery before December 30th.

  17. I had not seen these cards, they would make a great gift. I have on my wish list, a bobbin winder, a tension gauge and a good fairy to clean my studio.
I would also like to have another fairy to do the cooking so I could have more studio time.

  18. I wish for classes; I read the books but eye contact from teachers works better for me; sigh , time or tuition, maybe a fairy or elf could bring one?grins>

  19. I put an embellisher machine and the Janome 6600 on my quilting list but I know I won't be getting those. I also put on the list: Rayna Gillman's book "Create Your Own Hand-painted Cloth book", "The Uncommon Quilter", by Jeanne Williamson and Design Explorations for the Creative Quilter" by Katie Pasquini Masopus and the 3rd season of Quilting Arts DVD. I also put Photoshop Elements on the list but that is probably out of our budget too.

  21. So what's on my christmas list? tyvek, heat gun, Setacolours Opaque/Shimmer, and craft wire. Does that sound familiar? I printed the lessons from Joggles but haven't had a chance to start anything.

so who will buy this for me? Me!!! DH doesn't participate in Christmas so I buy my self a present from him and I buy another present for me instead of buying him one. It works for me.

I just need to find a local store with these items and I'm all set.

  22. Hello,

Love your Blog. The Ricky Tims cards are very cool.

My Christmas list includes a new cutting mat. Mine is getting a bit worn and before it is too bad I would like a new one. I think ahead as I like to store the new one in the garage for some time while the new mat smell wears off.

  23. There are so many things i could put on my list- but since my iron just died, a new iron would be on the top of the list. I may have to check out that Panasonic 1200! An elf to clean my sewing room would be great, but the room is so small I'm not sure more than 1 could fit!I also need a new mat- mine has a buckle in it (I think someone left a hot cup or tea on it!). Those are the I needs- the I wants? That list would go on for days!

  24. Hey Susan,

I'm a great fan of your blog. (Imagine my surprise when I logged in and saw my picture there, under "followers"!)

    The cards look beautiful.

Hope you and your family are enjoying the holiday season.

  26. Hi Susan... I would love some great lighting. I have my eye on a cute little light that hooks to my machine and aims the light right where I need it, the presser foot! I've been hinting for a month so I'm hoping....

    Have a Merry Christmas!
